Apple iPhone 13 mini 5G A15 Bionic Chip (MLKE3B/A) Review

The Apple iPhone 13 mini 5G is the best phone for those looking for a smaller form factor on Apple iOS. It remains a strong contender as the sleekest compact phone available today. It boasts impressive power, a top-notch camera, and superior battery longevity compared to the iPhone 12 mini; it stands out in its category. While it claims to be the ultimate iPhone, those seeking a diminutive device will find it a fortunate discovery.

As for the design, the iPhone 13 mini is the same shape and size as the iPhone 12 mini. The slight increase in thickness is hardly discernible given the device's small size, but the improved battery life is certainly noticeable. The iPhone comes with the Apple A15 Bionic chip, which delivers impressive power that remains sufficient for late 2022 and early 2023. It continues to surpass most processors found in high-end Android phones.

Here is the complete review of the Apple iPhone 13 mini.

Design

The design of the iPhone 13 mini is its primary selling point. The phone's form factor is slightly thicker by a quarter of a millimetre, but there is a slight difference in the colour scheme and the rearranged camera lenses. The iPhone 13 mini is approximately 15mm shorter and 7mm narrower than the standard iPhone 13, making it more pleasant for hands.

The screen on the iPhone 13 mini nearly covers the entire front of the device. It is shielded by thin metal borders that, like those on the iPhone 12 series, align flush with the screen for improved protection against drops.

Under the hood, the iPhone 13 series features Apple's Ceramic Shield front glass, which has demonstrated more excellent durability against drops than previous hardened screens. Although the back panel is also made of glass, it is not as resilient; tests on the iPhone 12 suggest it is more prone to shattering than the screen in a fall.

Display

The iPhone 13 mini takes much from its 5.4" OLED iPhone 12 mini contender despite its higher brightness nits. The screen is sharp with excellent contrast, brighter colours, and a higher refresh rate. In practice, the iPhone 13 mini might not be as smooth and responsive as its flagship iPhone 13 model or some other Android competitors.  This phone also has a signature Apple feature: a screen notch that houses the TrueDepth front camera for Face ID.

Camera and Video Quality

Apple differentiates its flagship iPhones with better cameras, and this compact iPhone 13 mini comes with sensational updates. For example, it offers sensor-shift stabilisation – previously found only on the iPhone 12 Pro Max – configured with the improved wide-angle sensor. With bigger pixels, this sensor picks up almost 50% more light than before.

The Night mode takes advantage of the phone's strong picture processing power, making the iPhone 13 mini outperform the iPhone 12 mini. How dim? It can take pictures and other images in a room lighted only by another phone's screen. Unfortunately, this capability is restricted to the wide lens. The ultra-wide rear camera and the 12MP front camera require a lot lighter to function properly.

The iPhone 13 mini includes the much-anticipated new camera and video enhancements announced across the full lineup. First, photographic styles are accessible via front and rear cameras. This feature addresses the prevalent practice of having phone cameras "tuned" to specific warmth and contrast preferences.

Specs and Performance

As you might expect from any best mini iPhone, the iPhone 13 mini gets a cutting-edge processor: the A15 Bionic. It's a significant upgrade over the iPhone 12 family. The iPhone 13 mini is  powerful, with a single-core score of 1,724 in Geekbench 5, approximately 8% faster than the iPhone 12 mini. Its multi-core score of 4,590 is about 18% quicker. As for the 3DVD performance, the phone achieved a peak score of 2,520, a 15% increase over the iPhone 12 mini. The unlimited version of the test scored 2,399, more than 17% higher than the iPhone 12 mini.

Overall, the iPhone 13 mini delivers uncompromised performance compared to the premium Android alternatives, but it might be slower than the iPhone 13 pro.

Battery Life

The iPhone 13 mini has considerably improved battery life over the iPhone 12. Apple claims it can play video for up to 17 hours. The reason for this is the iPhone 13 mini's compact design, which allows for less space for a battery and, thus, a lower battery capacity. On the contrary, the iPhone 13 can easily last a few days on a single charge.

Like its predecessors since the iPhone 8, the iPhone 13 mini is compatible with wireless Qi and works with MagSafe charging accessories designed to offer a more dependable charging experience.

Bottom Line

The iPhone 13 mini is the finest small phone that you can buy. It is fast and sleek, supports 5GB technology, and has a decent camera. Yes, the screen might not be suitable for some users, but the design and build are discreet, portable, durable, and easy to use one-handedly, right? So, for the size, power, and other innovative features — we have to give kudos to the iPhone 13 mini. It won't give you that 2-day battery life but will keep you productive and connected throughout the day.
